Robot Building Clinic

The UMAL Antweight/Beetleweight clinic will be held on July 20 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. At the clinic we will actually build a small combat robot! You will aquire the basic skills and knowledge to build combat robots and then actually build one. If you finish your robot before the start of the competition you will be allowed to compete if the robot meets all regulations.

In order to participate in the clinic you will need to bring one of the following basic robot starters frames please click on the one you would like to choose for more information on the option.

Please note the tools listing and bring the items on the list if at all possible. there will be some "loaner" tools available but UMAL does not garuntee the availabily of those tools to the clinic partisipants.

Minors must have a legal adult guardian with them at all times during the clinic, no exceptions (due to liability).

A narrow band ground frequency transmitter and reciever
A BattleBots remote control toy
An antweight robot kit from UMAL

If you are unsure of what to get please contact UMAL before you buy. Toy cars from various department stores can be used but will cause frequency conflicts and are strongly discouraged.

Transmitter and Reciever Option

These are available from local hobby shops and online. any ground frequency radios will be allowed. We suggest either single or double stick to start with. 3 channels allow you to have an active weapon on your robot (about $70). You would want a 3 channel radio unless you are going to build a wedge or pusher without any other weapons. A few low cost 3 channel radios are the HiTec Focus 3 channel AM Futaba 3FR AM 3 channel which are available at Tower Hobby. You can get a 4 channel FM with servos for about $130.00, this allows you a radio you can grow with. Be sure to bring batteries to power your transmitter!

You will also need the following materials:

If you have questions please contact >UMAL before you purchase items! UMAL is not responsible for any items you buy that do not meet regulations or are inoperable. UMAL does not garuntee that the robot you build will work or be able to compete at the following competition.
